Phillip Pearson - web + electronics notes

tech notes and web hackery from a new zealander who was vaguely useful on the web back in 2002 (see: python community server, the blogging ecosystem, the new zealand coffee review, the internet topic exchange).

Cellphones in America

It looks like cellphone plans are incredibly cheap in the USA. Here in New Zealand I pay Vodafone NZ$0.50 per minute off peak and NZ$1.50 per minute during the daytime. That’s on a prepay plan, though. I don’t think we have any plans that are anything like what Matt gets — the most expensive plan you can get here is Daytime 750, which has 750 anytime minutes for the low low price of NZ$275/month. We don’t have “unlimited nights and weekends” plans, so those 750 minutes have to cover that too. If you don’t call during the day, it’s not quite as bad: Get 300 gets you 300 off-peak minutes for $40. It’s $0.99/minute during the daytime, though.
